At the beginning of each episode , there are clips of the men featured in the series talking about what happened , what they saw  , there feelings etc. there names are not shown though . each episode shows a significant event in the bringing down of the nazi party , that or moments of significant memory to the officers of E-company (Easy company, 105th Airborne). For a TV series the realism is perfect, the funding for the series definitely did justice for the memory of the men that served in the events shown. </p> <p>At the beginning of the series, i didn’t like the fact it jumped from one event too another , not as drastically as i make out but you missed what happened in the middle.  as the series went on , the events in the episodes got more real , and hit home . the circumstances the men where stuck in and the things they saw really make you think. also the bond between them you see build throughout the series, even as friends and brothers fall in every episode. this is all backed up by the men the series is based on talking about the events you where about too see, making you remember its not just a TV series , this is what those men actually went through and did . It shows the advancement of men through the ranks , the comings and goings of recruits as they fall. At the end of each episode , there are quotes from men that served at that battle , facts about it etc. one that sticks in my mind is a quote from the company the series is based around which states ’ not one member of the 105th airborne to this day says they needed rescuing’ baring in mind this is after 6 months living in man made holes in the ground , with not enough men , food , ammo , the right clothing . and being fired upon by mortars every day. and surrounded on every side by the enemy. </p> <p>As the series approaches its end , the company are entering germany , and they stumble upon one of the inevitable ‘DEATH camps’ . i don’t know how they made the people used in this episode look how it did , but the realism is amazing. the re construction of what it would of been like is extremely REAL. also having the first hand accounts of the men who saw it they where able to give pieces of information to add even the subtlest details and goings on to make it that much more believable.</p> <p>The series ends with the men of E company , spending 6 months in Austria , unable to go home due to a ‘point system’ being set up before the war , with a requirement of 85 points to be able to go home. at the end of the episode it is announced the war is ended , japan had surrendered a year after hitler took his life and the nazi’s surrendered at eagle point . it takes 10 minutes at the end of the episode , giving information on what the members of e company did after the war , even to this present day .. their jobs etc. following this there are more clips of the men speaking about what happend , this time their names are shown . i think this simple thing created a huge amount of respect when you watch the men do what they did , then find out which of the old men you are seeing is . specifically Major Richard (Dick) Winters. </p>http://inkandtrees.tumblr.com/post/19780973634http://inkandtrees.tumblr.com/post/19780973634Fri, 23 Mar 2012 09:17:49 -0400<img src="http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m1c9bpFVC11r3lyjho1_500.jpg"/><br/><br/><p>CRITICAL REVIEW:</p> <p>The TV Series - Spartacus!</p> <p>   After stumbling upon the 3rd and most recent series of ‘spartacus’ i watched the episodes available before seeking out the rest of the series. The show is based in Rome and set around a house of gladiators and the goings on there, the first series made was titled ‘Blood and Sands’ and focussed on the rise and fall of certain Gladiators , mainly ‘spartacus’ . the series tries to give a real honest portrayal of what Rome would of been like ,  rude, gritty, corrupt and violent. the shows fighting scenes and cunning plots make it so gripping , and you just wanting more. What the Starz team have created with this series is completely believable, apart from some questionable use of language , which is thrown around frequently. this season focus’ on the story of spartacus, and how he lost his wife , new found best friend , and the conspiracy behind it all by his ‘Dominus’ ( owner ). shortly after this season ended, the actor who played spartacus passed away due to cancer.</p> <p>The creators , actors , and fans all wanted more of the series , specifically to know what happened before this season. how did these people end up there? what where other main characters stories? so the series became a star wars like series , in its order. season 1 becoming season 2 , season 2 becoming season 1 , followed by 3. </p> <p>thus following ‘Blood and sands’ they created ‘Gods of the Arena’ , which tells the story of the house of Batiatus ( the house for who they fight in the arena ) and how it rose through corrupt plans , murders and blackmail. it also tells the story of the gladiators and their love , loss and sacrifice building up to spartacus’ arrival. this season again is brilliant, you become attached to the characters in the series, and the pain they endure both physical and heartfelt , being under control by their master yet unable to disagree , seeing loved ones tarnished by other men or killed. this season really did answer everybody’s questions with none left out! its amazing how they’ve created such a gripping series only based around one villa and the arena , with a few shots elsewhere . The corruption among the higher romans is more than believable , all constantly trying to ‘honour’ their families name and gain the senates favour for whatever reason. the false trusts , plots , blackmails , and offerings all to gain place among ‘true romans’. This season ends in a GRAND finale , in which spartacus discovers the treachery of his owner , and that he killed his wife. other gladiators apart from him also discovered such things on their own part, lies , murder of brothers , poison. </p> <p>The final episode of the second season is entitled ‘KILL THEM ALL’ in which the gladiators plot to kill their Dominus at a showing of skill before some of romes greatest citizens ( roman officers , gladiator owners , wifes , politicians ) . The episode is gripping , after watching 12 hours of heartache , brothers bonding , and blood being shed all lead up to this . the gladiators massacre everybody their , women , men , and children before escaping.</p> <p>The 3rd and most recent season is entitled ’ Spartacus Vengeance ‘. This season is not favoured by as many , only down to the fact that the actor who played the original spartacus passed away and there was a new actor in his place. sort of like dumbledore in harry potter ( original is better ) . This season is about the gladiators creating their own guerilla style unit , and their aim is vengeance against the Roman empire , to free all in slavery and bring Rome too its knees.
